Simple Elegance Table Dressings

Garden Party textiles designed by Yolanda V. Fundora
Fabulous fabrics paired with simple pattern shapes result in contemporary, high-end table fashions. What could be more charming than your dining table set with elegant table dressings? This 5 piece pattern includes directions for plate mats, table scarf and/or table pad, and 2 styles of lined dinner napkins: traditional square (with a twist) or “Holiday Tree” napkins for garden parties or the holidays. What else is neat about this pattern besides its easy-sew construction? It’s designed to produce two distinct looks with one sewing operation—all components are reversible! There are no bound edges to slow you down with this easy method, and no hand sewing. Unique styling will be the star of the show on a square or rectangular table, and sure to earn a standing ovation on hard-to-fit round tables. Imperial measurements (USA) and metric included.
You can get this pattern and the Garden Party kit at Urban Amish.
Black and White Optical Quilts
What quilt do you make for a teen aged boy? Looking for a quilt to make from his school colors? Want easy piecing but a WOW effect? This quilt is the one you want.
Imagine this quilt in red & gold, blue & white, or purple & gold. Or, two contrasting blue batiks like flowing water.
It is strip-pieced from two colors with the convergence technique. Cut strips of fabric, alternate colors and re-sew together to make a striped fabric. Do this again to make four small quilts. Lay them with the small squares in the center for an optical effect or lay them in different orders for your own special optical. A gentle curve in the borders softens the geometrics for a perfect framing finish. Machine quilt.
2 colors, quick piecing, and great for a teenage boy; what more do you want in a quilt!

Spidron
I belong to a yahoo group of quilters and one day a member posted a web site about spidrons. I had never seen a spidron before so it was new to me. She knew I was a math lover and posted "hey cindy, wouldn't this make a great table topper". I visited the spidron web site. For several months the spidron image was on my mind. I continued to search the internet to learn more about this cool geometric system. Anyway, I decided to take the plunge and started to design a table topper.
If you took the workshop you may remember that the spidron was discovered by Dániel Erdély from Hungary. Dániel came across our workshop info page and contacted me. Since then we have corresponded back and fourth now and then. Come to find out he has a 13 year old daughter named Janka. Anyway, he was so excited about the quilt with spidrons that I asked my mil if she would make Janka a spidron table topper. My mil was more than eager to do so and here it is. Janka's favorite colors are bright greens.

"Louisa"
Finally I have finished this beautiful quilt and I am so happy with it.
I don’t usually use dark coloured background fabrics but when I decided to do this pattern I had an overwhelming need to move away from the safety of light coloured background fabrics.
I think the change of base colour was prompted by a recent project I did for “Homespun" magazine here in Australia. The brief was to do a cushion using light, bright and young fabrics. I thought to myself....Wow this is going to be hard as I am a lover of more traditional styles of quilts but up popped “Zoe” which has been well received.
“Louisa” was inspired by a 19th Century quilt which was originally 4 repeat blocks with an appliquéd vine border. Not having the staying power to make 4 blocks I chose to make one, with some changes, and then add a series of borders including the scallop and outer appliqué border. I also think that the hexagons work well in place of the usual daisy shape.
My love for all things “Yuwa” just added a special something to this quilt. I am happy with the way I have achieved the boldness of the princess feathers and yet the aged look with the more subtle Yuwa fabrics.
The finished quilt size is 70” and the pattern contains full sized pattern sheets.

Call Me!
Have you seen a teenager lately without a cell phone attached to an ear? Or do you hear the tap, tap, tap, of the keys sending a text to one of a million friends? Those were my thoughts as I began the design process of my new quilt, “Call Me!”.
I wanted to design a quilt with today’s youth in mind. Initially, I was going to make a quilt with a hopscotch design, that was until hubby mentioned no one plays hopscotch anymore! Of course, I thought, they play with cell phones…and so the light bulb clicked and “Call Me!” was the result. It could have just as easily been “Text Me!”, or just about anything that would fit on the screen.

Simple, graphic, web based icons fall within the border; however changing the icons to personalize the quilt would make it even more special. Does your teen/tween like a certain sport, or animal etc.? One of my quilt testers turned the solid blocks of the border into pockets for her granddaughter’s hair essentials and anything else she needed to keep.

This quilt is mostly piecing with a small amount of appliqué. I just zig zag the edges of this fusible appliqué quilt and it’s ready to go. Hope you enjoy it.
