Call Me!
Have you seen a teenager lately without a cell phone attached to an ear? Or do you hear the tap, tap, tap, of the keys sending a text to one of a million friends? Those were my thoughts as I began the design process of my new quilt, “Call Me!”.
I wanted to design a quilt with today’s youth in mind. Initially, I was going to make a quilt with a hopscotch design, that was until hubby mentioned no one plays hopscotch anymore! Of course, I thought, they play with cell phones…and so the light bulb clicked and “Call Me!” was the result. It could have just as easily been “Text Me!”, or just about anything that would fit on the screen.

Simple, graphic, web based icons fall within the border; however changing the icons to personalize the quilt would make it even more special. Does your teen/tween like a certain sport, or animal etc.? One of my quilt testers turned the solid blocks of the border into pockets for her granddaughter’s hair essentials and anything else she needed to keep.

This quilt is mostly piecing with a small amount of appliqué. I just zig zag the edges of this fusible appliqué quilt and it’s ready to go. Hope you enjoy it.

You can get the Call Me pattern at Patterns 2 Quilt.

A Gift from Kaye Wood

Shades of the Southwest

Use your favorite fabric and consider fussy cutting it into different sized circles to make this fun wallhanging. Uses Kaye's View & Do Circle Shape, it's easy to do. This pattern was originally published in Kaye's book, Circles Made Simple and has been completely redone. Use this technique to showcase your favorite embroidery as well as favorite photos, and themed fabrics.

Click here for the PDF pattern (1000k).

Gardener's Delight
Are you a gardener? Maybe a patio garden or full sized estate vegetable and flowers gardens? Our newest pattern, Gardener’s Delight will be published starting in the May/June issue of Ruby, the women’s ezine. Each issue for the next 8 issues will feature one of the blocks starting with the tulip block. The last issue will give border instructions and the photo of the finished and quilted project. It would make a great throw or wall hanging!

The pattern features four flower blocks-one for each season! Then if you like using landscape fabrics use grass, stones, sky and wood grain fabrics in the quilt. You can find all of these fabrics at www.quiltshops.com if your local shop doesn’t carry them. In each ezine issue will be my finished block, instructions, templates and a block design. The first issue in May will have the yardage for the entire quilt which measures 47" x 67". To subscribe to Ruby magazine go to rubyforwomen.com.

"Louisa"
Finally I have finished this beautiful quilt and I am so happy with it.
I don’t usually use dark coloured background fabrics but when I decided to do this pattern I had an overwhelming need to move away from the safety of light coloured background fabrics.
I think the change of base colour was prompted by a recent project I did for “Homespun" magazine here in Australia. The brief was to do a cushion using light, bright and young fabrics. I thought to myself....Wow this is going to be hard as I am a lover of more traditional styles of quilts but up popped “Zoe” which has been well received.
“Louisa” was inspired by a 19th Century quilt which was originally 4 repeat blocks with an appliquéd vine border. Not having the staying power to make 4 blocks I chose to make one, with some changes, and then add a series of borders including the scallop and outer appliqué border. I also think that the hexagons work well in place of the usual daisy shape.
My love for all things “Yuwa” just added a special something to this quilt. I am happy with the way I have achieved the boldness of the princess feathers and yet the aged look with the more subtle Yuwa fabrics.
The finished quilt size is 70” and the pattern contains full sized pattern sheets.
You can get "Louisa" pattern at Cherry Pie Designs.

Spidron
I belong to a yahoo group of quilters and one day a member posted a web site about spidrons. I had never seen a spidron before so it was new to me. She knew I was a math lover and posted "hey Cindy, wouldn't this make a great table topper". I visited the spidron web site. For several months the spidron image was on my mind. I continued to search the internet to learn more about this cool geometric system. Anyway, I decided to take the plunge and started to design a table topper.
If you took the workshop you may remember that the spidron was discovered by Dániel Erdély from Hungary. Dániel came across our workshop info page and contacted me. Since then we have corresponded back and fourth now and then. Come to find out he has a 13 year old daughter named Janka. Anyway, he was so excited about the quilt with spidrons that I asked my mil if she would make Janka a spidron table topper. My mil was more than eager to do so and here it is. Janka's favorite colors are bright greens.

You can read more about Spidrons at http://www.spidron.hu.

You can get this pattern at Quiltcampus.

Black and White Optical Quilts
What quilt do you make for a teen aged boy? Looking for a quilt to make from his school colors? Want easy piecing but a WOW effect? This quilt is the one you want.
Imagine this quilt in red & gold, blue & white, or purple & gold. Or, two contrasting blue batiks like flowing water.
It is strip-pieced from two colors with the convergence technique. Cut strips of fabric, alternate colors and re-sew together to make a striped fabric. Do this again to make four small quilts. Lay them with the small squares in the center for an optical effect or lay them in different orders for your own special optical. A gentle curve in the borders softens the geometrics for a perfect framing finish. Machine quilt.
2 colors, quick piecing, and great for a teenage boy; what more do you want in a quilt!
You can get Black & White Optical pattern at JTQuilt.

Simple Elegance Table Dressings

Garden Party textiles designed by Yolanda V. Fundora
Fabulous fabrics paired with simple pattern shapes result in contemporary, high-end table fashions. What could be more charming than your dining table set with elegant table dressings? This 5 piece pattern includes directions for plate mats, table scarf and/or table pad, and 2 styles of lined dinner napkins: traditional square (with a twist) or “Holiday Tree” napkins for garden parties or the holidays. What else is neat about this pattern besides its easy-sew construction? It’s designed to produce two distinct looks with one sewing operation—all components are reversible! There are no bound edges to slow you down with this easy method, and no hand sewing. Unique styling will be the star of the show on a square or rectangular table, and sure to earn a standing ovation on hard-to-fit round tables. Imperial measurements (USA) and metric included.
You can get this pattern and the Garden Party kit at Urban Amish.

Getting the Word Out
Help get the word out about FindAQuiltPattern.com by telling all your favorite quilt designers and quilter friends. For a limited time pattern listing is free, so tell the designers to jump in now. We will be having games and prizes, so let your quilter friends know about the fun to come.
This is a win win situation. Designs can list their patterns and quilters can search for the pattern they are looking for.
This will only work if we all jump in together. So get the word out. 8o)

Enter Patterns
As you know, we can now list up to 20 patterns free (for one year)*. Since I was able to automate some of the admin features, I have more time to add patterns.

With this automation, I can also help enter patterns for designers. All I need is the name of the pattern and a location of the pattern at your web site. After I get your pattern in the system, you can edit the pattern entry in your Designer's Control Panel at FindAQuiltPattner.com.

* Please note: To list 20 patterns free, there must be an easy to find link pointing to FindAQuiltPattern.com on your web site or blog.

Featured Patterns
I can not wait till the first newsletter issue in January where we can display our first featured pattern. I will also have it on our home page. So far we have three patterns waiting to be featured!
I have been working with our FindAQuiltPattern.com database so that featured patterns will show up with the pattern listings. To see a test run, visit our home page and click Search Patterns on the left. Select Patchwork category and Beginner Skill Level. Click the Do Search button. Scroll down to Simple Elegance Beverage Coaster. Within the listing you can see a Read more button. See a sample below.
This tag will also appear in the New Patterns list and in a designer's pattern list.
This is a great way to advertise a pattern and to create an eye catcher in the pattern listings.
I would love to have all designers to submit one of their patterns to be featured. It is easy, fun and free.
Please note the guidelines for featured patterns.
1)

Designers that have two or more patterns listed at FindAQuilPattern.com are eligible to submit one of their patterns to be featured.

2) The designer would include a 100 to 200 word article about the pattern.

Our first featured pattern is ready for its debut! It will be presented on our home page the first of January and presented in our first newsletter that is issued that month.
This will be a great way to advertise our patterns as well as decorate our home page and newsletter.

Here are the guidelines we have so far.

1)

Designers that have two or more patterns listed at FindAQuiltPattern.com are eligible to submit one of their patterns to be featured.

2) The designer would include a 100 to 200 word article about the pattern.

11/4/2009 issue 2

Let's think about our home page. It is pretty bland right now and could use a little color and excitement.

What do you think about having a featured pattern displayed on our home page? Along with a picture, there would be an article about the pattern. Depending on how many patterns are submitted, we can change the featured pattern once or twice a month. I could also add the featured pattern to the newsletter I send out.

This will help decorate our home page and provide quilters a fun article to read. They are always eager to hear about what inspired us in the creation of a pattern.

We will have to play this by ear for now, but let's start with these guidelines.

1)

Designers that have two or more patterns listed at FindAQuiltPattern.com are eligible to submit one of their patterns to be featured.

2) The pattern has to be a pattern that is listed at FindAQuiltPattern.com.
3) The designer would be responsible for a 100 to 200 word article about the pattern.
4) First featured pattern will be displayed in January.

If you are interested in entering one of your patterns just let me know and I will get the ball rolling.
